RPA Celebrates the NPS Centennial at Cumberland Island with Park Management class!
Recreation & Park Administration (RPA) students had another chance to enjoy Cumberland Island National Seashore in St. Marys Georgia as part of a REC 530/730 Park Management class. This time the National Park Service (NPS) just happened to be turning 100 years old. Cumberland Island National Seashore is a remote island off the coast of Georgia only accessible by a 45 minute ferry ride.
The students got to work hands on with the NPS as they conducted a two-day service project, spoke with multiple park managers, and still had time to soak up the sun on the beautiful undeveloped beach. This is the 5th consecutive year RPA has traveled to Cumberland Island to work with the National Park Service to help students understand the immense complexity of protected areas and land management. RPA students are looking forward to another trip to Cumberland Island next summer!
